Year Begins with Vasilopita Cutting

The Cretan Brotherhood officially opened 2019 with the annual Vasilopita cutting.

Members of the Cretan Club enjoyed each other’s company on a pleasant Sunday afternoon and shared the New Year’s blessing from Father Athanasios of the Brunswick Parish Agios Vasilios.

Lamb off the spit, pilafi and other Greek and Cretan delicacies filled members’s stomachs as their conversation and laughter filled the hall.

Staffed and organised by the Committee, the Sunday marked the first of the club’s new calendar which will see one Sunday event per month rather than one Sunday event every week as was attempted last year.

Last year’s Vasilopita cutting was also attended by the Patra club but even without their presence, the event was attended in good numbers and even included a table of Youth members.

Committee member Harry Heretakis was called up to celebrate his name day and Senior members entertained themselves with an auction.

The Committee would like to wish all members a great 2019 and hope to see you at the next Sunday event celebrating the Venizelia in March.
