Cretan Brotherhood fall short in Division 2 Futsal Final

Two seasons in and the recently promoted Cretan Brotherhood Futsal team continues to make waves in Division 2. Having lost in the semi-finals in our inaugural season, we were able to win the semi-final in a thrilling 10-5 win to qualify for the Division Final in December 2021.

Going into the Division Final, our boys were definitely the underdogs, playing a team that topped the league. In the two previous encounters, the Cretan Brotherhood had lost by small margins and we were ready for a big encounter.

As the Final got underway, the Cretan Brotherhood got off to to a flying start. Vasili scored from the defensive half and Dean scored the second. Theo, Raph, Kon & Manny were all able to find the back of the net to produce a 6-3 result in the favour of the Brotherhood at half time.

Unfortunately, it was not meant to be with our opponents reorganising their structure and taking the momentum with them. A penalty call later and we found our early lead ruled out at 6-6. Hitting the post in the second half, the Cretan Brotherhood struggled to find a break. Falling behind 7-6, our team was able to pull one back with another long shot by Vasili, only for it to be ruled out.

We had our close chances and with a never die spirit led by James Matsamakis (Team Captain), we were unlucky to not hold our opponents off. Zoumi made a number of brilliant saves and everyone gave it their all. Sadly, the Cretan Brotherhood were unable to hold out the Minor Premiers as they took out the Championship 9-6.

We’d like to thank our supporters and our sponsor Elite Custom Plumbing, owned and operated by our former Youth President, Jonathon Kaponikolos who sponsored the team by supplying our custom designed CBH kits.

Overall, season 2 was filled with strong improvements and quality moments that will be held in the bond of our team! We had fun and we’ll be sure to continue our futsal journey.

Onto the next season!
